“The creation of an LNG distribution infrastructure will be clearly noticeable”
In the industrial market legal metrology plays an increasingly important role. Mr Tavella, manager of Krohne Oil & Gas, Italy, explains: “The increasing complexity of product ownership in the industrial market and the realization that products (in whichever state they are during the production process) represent significant value, are continuous drivers for legal metrology.”
He continues: “The metrological challenges in the oil & gas industry will go hand in hand with the challenges that are being faced in the oil exploration itself. Here the geographical areas, mainly subsea and more extreme environments, strongly dictate the challenges and consequently the direction of new developments. In addition to this, the creation of an LNG distribution infrastructure will be clearly noticeable.” He explains: “As many players in the industry have noticed, LNG has been a “hot” topic for quite a numbers of years, but now the industry is entering a phase where ideas are being transferred into projects and where these projects are realised.”

Krohne attended the Milestones in Metrology conferences from the beginning and values it for the platform it offers that allows the participant to get a clear overview of what trends, developments and activities are taking place in the “metrological world”. Mr Tavella said: “Milestones in Metrology is different in the sense that a wide audience, from the metrological agencies all the way through to the industry, is present. This is also reflected in the topics that are discussed at the seminar. This, in combination with the possibility to interact with other players in the industry, forms an important motivation to participate.” And he admits: “Venice, as the venue for the Milestones of Metrology conference, is of course an extra incentive to attend.”
Beyond a simple meter comparison
Mr André Boer of Krohne Netherlands will give a presentation titled “New developments in master metering; beyond a simple meter comparison”; a presentation that puts master metering in a different perspective as it questions the goal of the measurement itself; establishing a new meter constant of just the verification of this parameter. It is expected that this point of view will give rise to some discussions.
Mr Tavella: “For Milestones in Metrology IV, the importance of the developments in LNG and the power industry will be of interest. Topics of interest are trends in metrology, recalibration under actual process conditions, and metrological trends in the O&G industry.”
